SOTN News for October, 2008

 

Greetings to all of our members with the final “news” for 2008.

End of Year: The end of our year is fast approaching. Our last working day will be Thursday
November 27 2008.  We will reopen to take bookings only on January 19 and then for tuition and classes from Tuesday Jan. 27 2009 (Jan. 26 is the Australia Day Holiday).

 Final Group Classes: The final group classes for 2008 are as follows. If you are interested in any of these, make your booking now. If any class is fully subscribed we can wait-list you. Call the office for reservations.

 28/10/2008 for 4 weeks – Digital Camera Photography

29/10/2008 for 5 weeks – Microsoft Excel 2007

30/10/2008 for 5 weeks – Microsoft Publisher

11/11/2008 for 3 weeks – Pinnacle for Photo and Video Production.

Annual Christmas Lunch: We are again looking forward to our main social event of the year. All members/ spouses and friends are welcome. Attendance last year was about 120 and all had a great time with the seafood buffet and good companionship. Bookings and money to the office please. Refer to the emails from Glenys and Gwenda for more details. The arrangements are as follows:

 Venue:  Gold Coast International Hotel,  7 Staghorn Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Date:      Friday 28^th November 2008

Time:     11:30am arrival, for 12 noon lunch

Cost:      SOTN members $31 pp, Non-Members $36 pp.

Annual General Meeting:  Our AGM was held on September 5 with a good roll-up of members. The formalities included a report from the Treasurer and Office Manager and a brief presentation from the President. The new Management Committee was elected unopposed with the only change being John Garbett elected Assistant Treasurer. David Ward then led a presentation on interesting aspects of the Internet and some email options for travellers.

 Demise of the Bulletin Board: The committee has been monitoring the usage members have been making of our bulletin board application for some time. It now receives very little use so we have decided to discontinue the service. It was our considered position that there were now so many “instant” sources of information and problem solving capability available from the Internet that the bulletin board had become redundant.

 Membership:  Our current membership stands at 727. We are always happy to welcome new members.
